Camino, een feature-length selfie

A self-portrait of Martin de Vries in two million steps

Doxy

A delightfully summery, secretly moving and wonderfully compelling film about the famous walk to Santiago de Compostella. Perfectly in cadence with the footsteps being made, Martin takes you along truly wonderful paths and landscapes and before you know it you are 'in the moment' of the trek.

"Everything inside me told me to do it," he says. Martin de Vries decides to walk the Camino without significant preparation, a 1,600-kilometre trek in almost 70 days. While walking, he films himself, his feet, his shadow, the path, the fields and the forests, trying to figure out why he embarked on this adventure. As he points the camera at himself while walking, De Vries muses relatively soberly about discomfort and euphoric moments, about the beautiful morning light and the sound of the birds, about self-doubt and growing confidence. He learns to be 'in the moment' and gradually explores his motivations more and more candidly. An unadorned account in the addictive rhythm of the trek, which makes the experience truly palpable.
